Good thing Thomas Paine didn't live in Brtian, he probably would have been killed for the things he wrote--more quickly than any of the other writers, anways. At first its hard to see Common Sense as radical, because to us, his writing really is that..common sense. Paine seems to be more of a philospher than the others. Instead of modifying the government everyone is used to, Britians sovreign monarchy, he attempts to develope the type of government that would make the most sense. Hamilton just kind of adapts Britan's government saying a government should rule only by what is necessary, he also believes that 'implied' rights of the gov't are okay. Paine says a government should rule as little as possible--that it is only a necessary evil. Society exists to promote the common good, not the government. The government is only in place to protect the members of the society from their own evil doings.

Pain was very different from the different writters of his time. He was a very outspoken man and would just say anything on his mind. He was also trying to get the point across about haveing your own independence.
