Jonathan's Last Questions

For this week's participation credit, please read the selections from Jefferson's First Inaugural Address from the online reader. From these selections, how would you characterize Jefferson's vision for the nation? In this speech, Jefferson famously said "We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists." What does he mean by this?

Note: Remember that your paper will be due in lecture on Thursday!

I think that Jefferson believes that the nation is one of the best of not the best in the world. Because a man would meet invasion of the public order as his own personnal concern. Jefferson statement "we are all republicans, we are wll federalists."; means that the two different groups strive to reach the same goals, however the just go about it in different ways.

Jefferson is talking about this new young country. I think he wants to make people see the potential in this country and how good it can be. He is a peoples person and he is trying to show how people are just people. This countries heart beats as one. Even though the parties may be diffrent and they may have slightly diffrent ideas they want the same overall picture. They want this young country to strive and become what it can be and in that they all have to beat as one and work as one to get the bigger more important picture working.

Jefferson is talking about the united states of america. Jefferson saying in the quote " we are all republicans, we are all Federalists" that we are all the same. We have the same principal (main idea) in each parties. The parites just go about reaching this main idea in differnt ways.
Jefferson believes that he can make america better. He wants to make a strong Rebulican government which many people fear will break down.

What Jefferson is talking about is the new self governing, independent America. We are still a very young country and he believes that we will become something great. I think Jefferson's point of making this statement is to reinforce the statement of all people are created equal. Both are parties that mean and stand for a free America.

I think what Jefferson is saying is that even though we were at the time a very young nation, he believes that we could be the greatest nation on this Earth, and that's what we should strive to achieve that goal. When he says "We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists" I think he's just saying that we are all American's, we are all part of this nation no matter what party we are part of

I would characterize Jefferson's vision for the nation by him wanting it to be a fair place. That is why he said "We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists." He wants to make it to where everyone is equal.

Jefferson believed that even though there were many different people in America, they made up one nation as a whole. They all had their own way of stereotyping people for their ideas, but in the end, they all were really striving for the same thing, to make America great and to have it live up to its potential.

I would say that Jefferson wanted to build up the best possible nation while he was the leader. He wanted the United States to become a nation that was fruitful and that was able to deal with other nations in the world. Additionally, he strongly believed in the idea that the majority should prevail and get what they want. When Jefferson says “We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists” he meant that we are one nation, that we should not divide ourselves into different parties.

I think that Jefferson is trying to bring the moral of the country up and talks how he has grand plans for the future. He believes that even though the country is in its infancy, it will one day be the greatest, strongest, united nation ever. He says "we are all republcans, we are all federalist" because he thinks that we are all part of the nation no matter what our beliefs, and we have to work together to make this nation great.

I think that Jefferson vision of the future was to instill his belief of a limited government was the most democratic best government. He also wanted to calm the Federalist ideas that the National government was too weak and stated that our government would be strong through its support of its citizens. He believe that if people believed in the government it could not fail. As to the Jefferson quote “We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists” he meant that if united we can achieve great accomplishments and stand the test of time.

Jefferson wanted to create an ideal powerful nation. When he says, "We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists," he is trying to illustrate the point that no matter what policital party one belongs to, everyone needs to work together in order to achieve the main goal. This statement is also saying that we need to put aside our beliefs and attitudes on certain issues to complete the bigger picture of having the greatest nation.

I think that Jeffereson was trying to say that even though one can belong to a political party, in the end we are the same. "We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists", therefore we are all the same and should work as a whole. Jefferson probably realized that the United States was falling as a whole, but if there was agreement, big issues could be solved.
